AMY WHITESALL is a web designer in the human resource and strategy department at U-M. She also is a freelance writer whose work appears in Crain's Detroit Business, Concentrate, and MGoBlue.com, among others. She lives in Chelsea, Mich., with her husband and their two sons and has been known to write stories from the treehouse in her backyard.
