Michael Shapiro
a partner and chair of the property tax appeals department of Detroit-based Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, has been named in the 11th edition of The Best Lawyers in America 2005-2006 (Copyright 2004 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, SC). He is a 1972 magna cum laude graduate of the U-M Law School and resides with his family in Bloomfield Hills. Shapiro has been recognized in the last five published editions as a top practitioner in the area of real estate law.

Gerald M. Griffith
has been elected to a one year term as EO Coordinator for the Internal Revenue Service Great Lakes Area Tax Exempt and Government Entities Council. Griffith is a partner and chair of the Health Care Department at Detroit-based Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohen LLP. He has practiced extensively in the health care and tax-exempt areas, including the representation of a variety of clients before the Internal Revenue Service. The author of numerous publications, he is a frequent speaker at state and national conferences. Griffith is a Director of the American Health Lawyers Association, past Chair of the State Bar of Michigan Health Care Law Section and has been named in the eleventh edition of The Best Lawyers in America 2005-2006 (Copyright 2004 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, SC).

Mindy Greenblatt
will receive her D.M.D. degree in June 2005 from Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She has just spent 4 yours in a joint program with Harvard Medical School. In July, 2001, Mindy will begin a 3-year Post-Doctoral program at The University of Michigan in Orthodontics.

Abdu Murray
has been elected partner of Detroit-based Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP. Murray is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department, where he has litigated a wide variety of disputes involving constitutional law, such as substantive and procedural due process claims and equal protection claims. Murray counsels business clients in various aspects of real estate law, with an emphasis on zoning and land use. Murray also has litigated various business cases involving securities law, trade secret law, and the uniform commercial code. He resides in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Gregory R. Schermerhorn
has been elected partner of Detroit-based Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP. Schermerhorn is a member of the firm’s Employee Benefits Department, where he assists clients with design, establishment, administration and termination of executive compensation, retirement and welfare benefit programs. He resides in Birmingham, Michigan.

Timothy Miller
retired from the L.A. Unified School District after 33 years of distinguished service as a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal and Director of Middle Schools.
A native of Flint Michigan, Dr. Miller attended Michigan and received his doctorate degree from Wayne State University. While at Michigan he participated in the Michigan-Sheffield England Exchange Program. He was also an active participant in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. while attending Michigan.
A retirement celebration will be held at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills on Sunday March6, 2005 at noon.

Dr. Darrell H. Beach
retired from the Culver Academies in Culver, Indiana, after teaching there for 35 years. He is presently an associate professor of chemistry at Indiana University South Bend.

James K. Cleland
Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the nation’s largest intellectual property law firms, today announced that James K. Cleland has joined the firm as an Associate in the Ann Arbor office. Mr. Cleland will concentrate his practice on patent, trademark, copyright, unfair competition and trade secret litigation, as well as on patent prosecution in the chemical and mechanical fields.
Prior to joining Brinks, Mr. Cleland was a senior associate at Greenberg Traurig in Chicago, Illinois. He was also a summer associate at David Lundy & Associates, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and McGinty, Jakubiak & Hitch, East Lansing, Michigan.
Mr. Cleland received a B.S., cum laude, in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1994, and a J.D., cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, Indiana, in 1997, where he was a semi-finalist and won the Best Brief Award in the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition.
Mr. Cleland is a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.

The United States Tennis Association has announced that mental training coach Bob Litwin, Glenwood Landing, NY, has been picked for the 2005 United States Men’s 55 Tennis Team. The US will compete in this year’s Austria Cup international tennis competition in Perth, Australia March 27-April 1. Litwin, a nine time USTA National Champion, is currently ranked #2 in the World by the ITF. Last September he helped the team win a silver medal by winning all five of his matches when the competition took place in Philadelphia. Additionally, he was a finalist in the ITF World Championships at the same site. Due to the Yom Kippur holiday he defaulted the finals to Thomas Koch of Brazil costing himself a chance to achieve the World’s #1 ranking. He has been selected to the team on the basis of his 2004 record which included winning the USTA National Grass Singles and Doubles Championships, this, for the second year in a row and in amassing a 40-3 singles record. Litwin is undefeated in Eastern play in his age group since 1998. He is looking to help bring the Cup back to the US when the team competes against some of the world’s top men’s tennis teams on the grass in Perth. This prestigious Cup determines the World Team Champions, similar to the Davis Cup. He will be joined on this year’s Cup team by Brian Cheney, Arizona, Larry Turville and Neal Newman, both of Ohio.He graduated in 1970 from the University of Michigan with a BA in English. Not a serious player when he got to Ann Arbor, he attempted to play for the team but was not good enough. He took up competing seriously when he was in his 30s.
Mr. Litwin is a tennis professional and mental training coach who teaches athletes how to get and stay focused. He is the Senior Professional at Port Washington Yacht Club and a USTA High Performance Coach at Robbie Wagner’s Tournament Training in Glen Cove.
